Saratoga Lake

Saratoga Lake is about 4.5 miles long and a mile and a half across at its widest, just southeast of downtown Saratoga Springs, and it is the summer water for much of the county. Only the northwest corner of the shoreline is inside the city. The rest belongs to the Town of Malta on the southwest, the Town of Stillwater on the southeast and the Town of Saratoga on the northeast, even where the mailing addresses say Saratoga Springs. The lake is busy with boats, rowers and waterfront restaurants from Memorial Day to Labor Day and quiet the rest of the year, when the people who live on it have it mostly to themselves.

Where it is

From downtown Saratoga Springs, Union Avenue (Route 9P) runs east past the racetrack and the Northway to the north end of the lake, then crosses the outlet on the Saratoga County Veterans Memorial Bridge and follows the east shore south. Kayaderosseras Creek feeds the lake from the northwest, and Fish Creek drains it from the north toward the Hudson at Schuylerville. The north end, around Fish Creek, has the public boat launch and most of the marinas. Regatta View and Interlaken are the city neighborhoods closest to the water.

What to know if you’re moving here

A lake address can mean a year-round house, a converted camp or a condo with deeded access. Sort out which before anything else.

  • Check the municipality, not the mailing address. A Saratoga Springs address on the lake can be in the city, Malta, Stillwater or the Town of Saratoga, and taxes, services and sometimes school districts follow the municipality.
  • Some east shore addresses are in the Stillwater Central School District rather than the Saratoga Springs City School District. Confirm with the district before you buy.
  • Lake rights vary. Direct frontage, deeded rights, association beaches and shared docks are all common, and each comes with its own rules.
  • Route 9P has no shoulder along much of the east shore and heavy traffic in summer, which matters for anyone who walks, runs or bikes.
  • Many older camps were built for summer use. Ask about heat, insulation, septic and the water supply before assuming a lake house works in January.

What to do if you’re visiting

You can have a full day on the lake without owning a boat. Start at the north end, where most of the restaurants and rentals are.

  • Lago by Druthers, 550 Union Avenue, took over the former 550 Waterfront space and serves pizzas, sandwiches and Druthers beer with a view of the water.
  • The state-owned boat launch off Union Avenue on the north shore is the public put-in for anyone trailering a boat.
  • On the east shore, Ugly Ice Cream at Brown’s Beach has a listed address of 511 Route 9P, Saratoga Springs, though Brown’s Beach itself sits in the Town of Stillwater.
  • Saratoga Lake Golf Club and The Hideaway at Saratoga Lake share an address at 35 Grace Moore Road.
  • Anglers come for walleye, bass, northern pike and tiger muskie.

Good to know

Lake restaurants and rentals often run shorter hours or close for the season after Labor Day. Call ahead in the shoulder months. Checked September 23, 2026.
