This guide is a month-by-month look at the year in Saratoga Springs, for residents planning ahead and visitors choosing when to come. It covers the recurring events, the seasons that shape daily life and the dates we could confirm for 2026. Events change, so treat this as a planning calendar and confirm details before you go.

How the year works

The year in Saratoga Springs has one peak and a long shoulder. From late July through Labor Day, the summer meet at Saratoga Race Course and the SPAC season bring in crowds and push up prices. Late spring and early fall are the easiest times to visit. Winter is quiet, with a few big downtown events.

January and February

Midwinter is the quietest stretch, and the easiest time to get a table anywhere.

• Discover Saratoga lists a Dr. King Celebration Weekend in January, with music, art, lectures and parties around the county.
• Chowderfest takes over Broadway on a Saturday in early February. In 2026, it ran February 7 with roughly 80 participating restaurants and businesses serving $2 tastes.
• The Saturday farmers market meets indoors at the Lincoln Baths in Saratoga Spa State Park all winter.

March and April

Mud season. Trails in the state park get soft, the lake ice breaks up, and seasonal businesses start preparing to reopen. SPAC and the racing association typically release summer schedules in this window or earlier; in 2026, the racing association released its stakes schedule in late February, and SPAC opened public orchestra sales in late March.

May

The city wakes up.

• The outdoor farmers market returns to High Rock Park in May, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
• The city’s summer paid-parking program in downtown garages and lots starts Memorial Day weekend. In 2026, it began May 22.
• Lake businesses reopen for the season.

June

June brings the first big crowds.

• The Beekman Street Art Fair fills Beekman Street on a Sunday in early June; in 2025, it ran June 1.
• In 2024, 2025 and 2026, the Belmont Stakes ran at Saratoga while Belmont Park was rebuilt. The 2026 Belmont was June 6. The racing association says the race returns to Belmont Park in 2027.

July

Summer arrives in full.

• The 2026 summer meet opened Friday, July 3, with a July 4th Racing Festival. In 2027, the association plans to return to a 40-day meet, with the July 4th festival moving downstate.
• New York City Ballet performs at SPAC in July.
• Discover Saratoga lists a free summer concert series in Congress Park in July and August.

August

Peak season. In 2026, the Whitney ran August 8 and the Travers August 29, and the Philadelphia Orchestra held its SPAC residency August 5 to 22. Book restaurants and hotels well ahead, expect traffic on Union Avenue and around the state park, and walk when you can. Fasig-Tipton holds its yearling sales during the meet.

September

The meet ends on Labor Day, which was September 7 in 2026, and the paid-parking program ends the same day. The crowds leave quickly, the weather stays warm, and September is one of the best months to be here. Some lake businesses start trimming hours after Labor Day.

October

Fall color and rowing.

• The Head of the Fish regatta, held each fall, brings rowing crews to Fish Creek at the north end of Saratoga Lake.
• Discover Saratoga lists the Saratoga Wing Off in October, with $2 wing samples benefiting the American Cancer Society.
• The outdoor farmers market runs its last weeks at High Rock Park before moving indoors in November.

November

Discover Saratoga lists Saratoga County Restaurant Week, with prix-fixe menus around the county, in November. The farmers market moves indoors to the Lincoln Baths.

December

The Victorian Streetwalk opens the holiday season on the first Thursday after Thanksgiving. The 40th Streetwalk is scheduled for Thursday, December 3, 2026, from 6 to 9 p.m. on Broadway, with a Santa parade and the city tree lighting. The Festival of Trees at the Saratoga Springs City Center runs alongside it. Downtown’s New Year’s Eve celebration closes the year.
