The 10 best restaurants in Schenectady, NY

Dinner in Schenectady often comes before a show at Proctors or a night at Rivers Casino, and the city has the restaurants to match. This list is for Saratoga County readers heading south for the evening and for Schenectady locals looking for a change. The list runs from a 1977 diner on State Street that serves breakfast all day to a Little Italy dining room, a Moroccan kitchen on Liberty Street and a brewpub on the water at Mohawk Harbor.

Every restaurant here is inside the City of Schenectady. Some places with Schenectady mailing addresses sit in Rotterdam, Niskayuna or Glenville, so each address was checked against state boundary data. North Jay Street, the city’s Little Italy, is the place to start for red sauce and pastry, and some downtown spots add hours on Proctors show nights.

How we chose

We looked for independent restaurants with a steady local reputation, coverage in the Daily Gazette and other local outlets, and staying power, and we checked every address against state and federal boundary data to confirm the restaurant sits in the City of Schenectady. Each one was confirmed open as of mid-October 2026 from the restaurant’s own website plus a 2026 state health inspection, a 2026 news story or a live ordering page, and hours and prices come from those pages. Chains were left off. The list is unranked and in alphabetical order, and no restaurant paid to be included.

Hours, prices and dates below come from each business or official source and change without notice. Call ahead if you are making a special trip.
