LifeWorks Community Action, formerly the Saratoga County Economic Opportunity Council, is the county’s community action agency, headquartered at 39 Bath Street in Ballston Spa. The nonprofit was founded in 1965 and took the LifeWorks name in January 2021, saying it had been mistaken for a government agency for too long.
Programs include Head Start early childhood education, the WIC nutrition program, The Pantry food pantry in Ballston Spa and The Kitchen in Saratoga Springs, weatherization and energy services, family development and immigrant services. The weatherization program also covers Schenectady County, and the Office for New Americans navigator program serves the northern Capital Region.
