Olde Bryan Inn

The Olde Bryan Inn is a restaurant and tavern in a Federal-style stone house at 123 Maple Avenue, at the corner of Rock Street, above High Rock Spring in Saratoga Springs. The site’s first building was a log cabin trading post from 1773, later bought by Revolutionary War scout Alexander Bryan, considered the area’s first permanent settler.

Dave Powers and Joe Wilkinson turned the stone house into a tavern in 1979, and Steve Sullivan joined the partnership in 1981. The dining rooms keep church-pew booths from the Church of St. Peter, three Rumford fireplaces and 12-over-12 windows, and the kitchen is known for French onion soup, wings and comfort food served with homemade biscuits.

• Its Mug Club began in 1979 with 72 old Skidmore faculty mailboxes, which filled within a month, according to The Daily Gazette.
• The Preservation Foundation calls it the only remaining Federal-style house in Saratoga Springs.
