Hyde Collection, the

The Hyde Collection is an art museum at 161 Warren Street in Glens Falls, built around the Renaissance Revival mansion Charlotte Pruyn Hyde and Louis Fiske Hyde completed in 1912 on the bluffs above the Hudson and the Finch, Pruyn paper mill her father co-founded. Charlotte Hyde placed the house and her collection in trust for the public in 1952, and the museum has grown around Hyde House with modern galleries since.

The permanent collection runs past 3,000 objects, with Old Masters including Rembrandt, Rubens, Botticelli and El Greco, Impressionists and modern artists including Degas, Renoir and Picasso, and Americans such as Homer, Eakins, Hassam and Whistler, much of it still displayed in the furnished period rooms. Changing exhibitions in fall 2026 include Tanya Marcuse: Book of Miracles and a Shaker design show, both through January 10, 2027, and the museum runs tours, lectures, film screenings and family programs.
