Great Escape and Hurricane Harbor

Six Flags Great Escape and Hurricane Harbor is the region’s amusement park and water park, at 1172 Route 9 in Queensbury, between Glens Falls and Lake George. Charles R. Wood opened the park in 1954 as Storytown USA, and it grew into The Great Escape before Six Flags bought it in 1996.

The Comet, a wooden roller coaster moved here from Crystal Beach, Ontario in 1994, is the signature ride, alongside a lineup of coasters, family and kids’ rides and the Hurricane Harbor water park included in admission. Across Route 9, the Six Flags Great Escape Lodge has an indoor water park that operates year-round while the main park runs from spring through fall, with Fright Fest in October.
