Honey Farms Market’s first NY store takes shape in Malta

News October 1, 2026 5 min read Suggest a correction

Honey Farms Market, a convenience store chain from Massachusetts, is building its first New York store at 2954 Route 9 in Malta, at the corner of Old Post Road. The company had targeted an August opening, but a construction completion date and an opening date had not been finalized as of Sept. 21, according to The Daily Gazette.

The store replaces a closed XtraMart just off Exit 13N of the Northway, and a new building is going up on the site, according to NEWS10 and the trade publication CSP. The site will include Honey Farms Fuel, though the number of pumps has not been announced, the Gazette reported.

What we know

Here are the confirmed details so far, with the source for each.

  • Address: 2954 Route 9, at Old Post Road, according to Reid Lamberty, senior communications adviser for owner Global Partners LP, as reported by the Gazette.
  • Owner: Global Partners LP of Waltham, Massachusetts, which also owns the XtraMart and Alltown Fresh brands, according to CSP.
  • Fuel: the site will have Honey Farms Fuel, the Gazette reported.
  • Timing: a spokesperson told NEWS10 in March that the store was expected to open in the summer, and told CSP the opening was scheduled for August. In September the Gazette reported that neither date had been finalized.
  • Neighbors: the store will sit directly across Route 9 from a Stewart’s Shops location, the Gazette reported.

Much of Malta shares the Ballston Spa ZIP code, which is why some reports place the store in Ballston Spa. The site is in the Town of Malta.

What Honey Farms sells

Honey Farms Market stores carry made-to-order sandwiches, honey-infused drinks, coffee, fresh produce and snacks along with fuel, NEWS10 reported, citing the company’s website. The Gazette described the brand as a New England convenience store focused on fresh food and local products, including ready-made sandwiches and coffee.

Global Partners has been reworking the brand. On a November 2025 earnings call, chief executive Eric Slifka described a “newly reimagined” Honey Farms Market alongside Alltown Fresh, with chef-driven menus, clean-label offerings and a new loyalty program called Bee’s Knees Benefits, according to CSP.

Who owns it

Global Partners bought Honey Farms in 2017, when the chain had 33 stores in and around Worcester, Massachusetts, a third of them with fuel, according to C-Store Dive. Some of those stores were later sold, and fewer than a dozen Honey Farms and Honey Farms Market locations are now listed in Massachusetts on the company’s website, the trade site reported. The banner grew in 2023 and 2024 when Global Partners bought 64 Timewise stores in Texas and rebranded them as Honey Farms. The Gazette reported that Honey Farms Market currently operates four locations in Massachusetts.

The Gazette called Honey Farms Market the sister brand to Alltown Fresh, Global Partners’ larger fresh-food format. Alltown Fresh stores have a made-to-order kitchen with sandwiches, burritos, bowls and salads, plus bean-to-cup coffee, honey-infused teas and fruit juices, according to C-Store Dive. That brand started in 2019 and reached 17 locations with a new store in Framingham, Massachusetts, in March.

The parent company is much larger than the brand. Global Partners runs 290 convenience stores on the East Coast and another 67 in Texas through a joint venture, and it expects to spend $75 million to $85 million this year building and updating stores and gas stations, up from $37.5 million in 2025, according to C-Store Dive. That figure does not include acquisitions, which the company said last year it intended to pursue. CSP ranks Global Partners 27th among U.S. convenience store chains by store count.

The company is already a familiar name around here. NEWS10 listed XtraMart stores in Guilderland, Saratoga Springs, Clifton Park, Glenville, Halfmoon, Warrensburg and Lake George. Global Partners’ market-and-kitchen brand, Alltown Fresh, has a store on Route 9 with a Fort Edward address, less than 20 minutes from the Malta site, according to the Gazette. NEWS10 placed that store in Moreau and listed a second Alltown Fresh in Schenectady.

Across the road from Stewart’s

The Malta store will sit in Stewart’s home territory. The site is less than four miles from Ballston Spa, where Stewart’s is based, and a Stewart’s operates at the same intersection, C-Store Dive reported. Lamberty told the Gazette the Saratoga area “stood out as a great fit” for the company’s first New York store. He did not describe Honey Farms as a direct competitor to Stewart’s, and said there is room for customers to use both.

Our read: a fuel-and-food store across the street from a Stewart’s is a straight test of whether Saratoga County drivers will change a habit for fresher prepared food. Global Partners already has a feel for local tastes from its Alltown Fresh up the Northway and its XtraMart stores around the region, and the Malta store will show whether the reworked Honey Farms format travels.

What we are still waiting on

These are the open questions, and we will update this story when the company answers them.

  • An opening date, which the company has not set.
  • Store hours and the number of fuel pumps.
  • The menu for the Malta store, including whether it carries the chef-driven items Global Partners has described for the reworked brand.
  • Whether more New York stores follow. The company told CSP and C-Store Dive it plans to add Honey Farms locations in the state but has no timeline.

The store is not open yet. Our directory already has a listing for Honey Farms Market, and we will add the hours and details once the doors open.
