Beekman Street Arts District

The Beekman Street Arts District is a short stretch of Beekman Street on the West Side where galleries, studios and a few places to eat occupy old houses and storefronts. For much of the 20th century this was part of a working-class neighborhood settled by Irish and Italian families who came with the railroad, along with Black families who had few other places in the city to live. The street had its share of Italian restaurants and its share of trouble. Around 2000, artists began organizing to turn the blocks into an arts district, and the nonprofit that grew out of that effort still runs the annual art fair.

Where it is

Beekman Street runs north and south a few blocks west of Broadway, and the core of the district is the stretch between West Circular Street and Grand Avenue. It sits inside the larger West Side and within Saratoga Springs city limits. Congress Park and downtown are about a 10-minute walk east. Washington Street marks the north end of what the art fair now uses.

What to know if you’re moving here

Living on or near Beekman means living in one of the West Side’s older residential pockets with a small commercial strip in it.

  • Housing is mostly 19th-century single-family and two-family houses, with some newer infill.
  • Some of the gallery buildings are also homes, and the line between studio and residence is blurry on this street.
  • Art fair day closes the street to cars. In 2025 the fair ran on a Sunday in early June and covered Beekman from West Circular Street up to Washington Street.
  • Schools are in the Saratoga Springs City School District, and elementary assignments go by address. Check the district’s zone map.
  • The businesses turn over. A gallery or café that is here this year may not be next year, so do not buy a house here for one particular shop.

What to do if you’re visiting

Beekman is a stroll, not an all-day outing. Pair it with lunch downtown or a walk through Congress Park.

  • The district’s nonprofit, Saratoga Springs Arts District, Inc., is based at 143 Grand Avenue at Beekman Street and produces the Beekman Street Art Fair.
  • The fair brings juried artists in white tents, food trucks and a music tent. In 2025, the music tent was booked by Caffe Lena.
  • On fair day in 2025, CDTA ran a free shuttle from the Saratoga Casino Hotel lot to Beekman Street, which beats hunting for a spot on the side streets.
  • The rest of the year, walk the three blocks, look in whichever studios have the door open and head back to Broadway.

Good to know
